Global Partnership

In 1990, the UN adopted eight Millenium Development Goals (MDGs) to be acheived by the year 2015. The UN's stand is that if we, as a global community, can reach these 8 goals by the year 2015, the world will be better off.

Target 1: Address the special needs of least developed countries, landlocked countries and small island developing states.

Target 2: Develop further an open, rule-based, predictable, non-discriminatory trading and financial system.

Target 3: Deal comprehensively with developing countries’ debt.

Target 4: In cooperation with pharmaceutical companies, provide access to affordable essential drugs in developing countries.

Target 5: In cooperation with the private sector, make available benefits of new technologies, especially information and communications.

You can help raise awareness of this MDG by completing the following actions:

Play a game or two of MDG Chase and share one fact you learned with someone

Create and share your own daily action related to MDG #8, Global Partnership

Play the Stop Disasters! simulation at www.stopdisastersgame.org and share how it was challenging.

Read through the MDG 2009 Fast Facts poster and share the fact that surprises you the most with someone

Find 3 countries that are close to meeting the Millennium Development Goals by using the Google Earth layer from www.mdgmonitor.org

Show off your classroom or school by uploading a picture in the comments today

Make a poster that helps raise awareness of the MDGs

Tell 3 people today something you've learned about the U.N. or the MDGs

Take a Stand! Declare which MDG you think is the most important to achieve and why

Read through one of the "New Ideas for the Earth" at www.kidsforfuture.net and leave feedback at the end of the article

Visit www.freerice.com and help donate at least 100 grains of rice to the World Food Programme by playing the game

Visit Poverty.com and print off a letter to send to your government about hunger issues

The United Nation's Cyber Schoolbus is a perfect site for all ages to get a grasp of how kids around the world can help raise awareness of the Millenium Development Goals. Play games, check out resources, and dig into data comparing how well each country is meeting the MDGs.

The interactive Atlas of the Millenium Development Goals is a great resource for visualizing just how unbalanced the world really is. This is a great place for older students to explore on their own the inequality that exists in the world, or for teachers of younger students to help compare countries with one another.

Taking IT Global is one of the sites that the Take Action! project is based upon. Taking IT Global has games, online galleries filled with student art, resources for educators, and ways to help empower citizens to act towards achieveing the Millenium Development Goals.
